Long‐Distance Lateral Magma Propagation and Pamir Plateau Uplift
نویسندگان
چکیده
Long-distance lateral magma propagation may reflect the complex interaction between regional tectonics and crustal uplift. Here, we report observations on Taxkorgan intrusive (TIC) of Central Pamir. TIC is a 70 km long, 10–18 wide, north-northwest–elongated body intruded into mid-upper crust in parallel with, close to, Kongur Shan Extensional System. New zircon U-Pb dating shows that syenite samples exhibit clear younging pattern from south to north along pluton axis within an interval 11.5 10.3 Ma, which interpreted as single feeder zone at its northwestern margin. The was caused by combination rigidity differences, topography-induced pressure gradient nearly orthogonal least compressive stress. We propose long-distance plays important role plateau expansion, restraining thickness elevation Pamir Plateau.

متن کاملDynamic subsidence and uplift of the Colorado Plateau
We use inverse models of mantle convection to explore the vertical evolution of the Colorado Plateau. By satisfying multiple constraints (seismic tomography, stratigraphy in the western United States and Great Plains, and other structural and volcanic data adjacent to the plateau), the model provides predictions on the continuous history of Colorado Plateau vertical motion since 100 Ma. With th...

[1] We introduce a quantitative model of global mantle convection that reconstructs the detailed motion of a warm mantle upwelling over the last 30 Ma towards the interior of the southwestern USA from observed present-day mantle heterogeneity. The onset and evolution of uplift in the central Basin and Range province and Colorado Plateau during this time is determined by tracking the topographic...
متن کاملColorado Plateau uplift and erosion evaluated using GIS
Study of the interaction between uplift and erosion is a major theme of our science, but our understanding of their interplay is often limited by a lack of quantitative data. A classic example is the Colorado Plateau, for which the starting and ending points are well known: The region was at sea level in the Late Cretaceous, and now, the deeply eroded land surface is at ~2 km. The path of the l...
متن کاملConstraints on the early uplift history of the Tibetan Plateau.
The surface uplift history of the Tibetan Plateau and Himalaya is among the most interesting topics in geosciences because of its effect on regional and global climate during Cenozoic time, its influence on monsoon intensity, and its reflection of the dynamics of continental plateaus. Models of plateau growth vary in time, from pre-India-Asia collision (e.g., approximately 100 Ma ago) to gradua...
